     Welcome to my         Flute Studio

I have been teaching comprehensive private lessons to students of all ages for over 25 years. Music education is a passion for me and it brings me joy to be able to share this passion with my students. From day one, they learn important foundational techniques to help them boost their skills and self-esteem. Each student has a unique learning style, and it’s my duty to find out what that is and adapt my lessons accordingly.

It is my greatest hope that no matter where their musical journey takes them, my students will gain a lifelong love of music.

All About Me

IMG_1479.JPG

I have many years of experience successfully teaching flute, piano and music theory to students with a range of abilities. From complete beginners and little ones as young as 5, to accomplished middle and high school band/orchestra flutists and adults learning for their own pleasure.

I believe that a student will develop best in a supportive, caring, positive environment. I also understand that finding the right teacher is crucial to success. My teaching philosophy is to provide a warm friendly approach to learning, allowing the student to be comfortable in their development as a flutist. Only when this level of trust is built, can a student feel safe enough to explore the instrument and fulfill their potential. My priority is to provide inspirational lessons and meaningful instruction, whilst instinctively connecting with each student on an personal level.  My years of teaching has given me extensive experience working with children both in a private setting and in a school environment.

I gained my own love of music by dancing and singing at a young age, starting my formal classical music training first with piano and then beginning flute at the age of 9. I earned my final Grade 8 in flute
(Associated Board of the Royal School of Music) and a music scholarship at the age of 16, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Kingston University, London.

I began teaching piano and flute at the age of 17 and I have been teaching ever since! I truly LOVE connecting with my students, building a bond with them and watching them grow as musicians. I pride myself on making my lessons engaging and enjoyable, whilst challenging and encouraging each student to bring out the best in themselves as a flutist, whatever their goal.

Originally from the UK, I now teach in San Diego and love spending time with my family and especially being a Mum to my son Thomas!

Online Lessons

CONVENIENCE

Online lessons provide a professional teacher's insights, experience, and expertise in the convenience of your own home. Online lessons reduce unnecessary travel expenses, stress, and time pressures involved with the complex schedules of busy families.

Lessons can be conducted through videoconferencing via various platforms, including Skype, FaceTime, Whats App and Google Hangouts. Students can use a computer, iPad, or even an iPhone.

Advanced Technique

INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED STUDENTS

For Intermediate to Advanced students, I work to focus lessons according to the students’ needs, with an emphasis on technique, development of tone, phrasing, repertoire and musicality.

I also have experience supporting students in the preparation of auditions, competitions and evaluations if needed.

Scales, Studies, appropriate repertoire and aural skills are at the heart of every lesson. Above all I focus on motivating each student to push themselves to achieve higher.

Testimonials

Josh_Diana_edited_edited.jpg

"Immediately upon meeting Diana, we were struck by her warmth, her incredible experience playing and teaching flute (and music theory), and her openness in listening to what we wanted out of lessons. Diana uses such a gentle, encouraging approach. She has an amazing ability to connect with and inspire her students. She is great at gauging the level of challenge that keeps our son thoroughly excited about flute. Josh always looks forward to lessons, and he is progressing quickly. He currently is excelling as a flutist in his middle school’s Advanced Band.

We are forever grateful for Diana's lessons, her guidance and her friendship! She has had a huge influence on Josh’s success in and enthusiasm for playing flute, and his love of music in general – a love that will stay with him for his entire life.Thank you, Diana!"

"I had an absolutely amazing experience with Diana! I took lessons with her my Junior and Senior year of high school, which was a very stressful time for me, yet I still wanted to continue flute seriously. Working with Diana was perfect, she taught me at a very high level but was extremely understanding if I had to reschedule or had a lot going on. She improved my repertoire, helped me with scales, rhythm and sightreading, and prepared me for two important symphony auditions. Diana is the perfect balance of friendly and serious and helped keep practice and lessons fun rather than stressful. Overall 11/10 would recommend to kids or adults of all ages and any skill level!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Home: FAQ

How much do you charge for your teaching services?

My current rates are $30 for 30 minutes for young beginners and typically $60 an hour for all other lessons.

How long should my lesson be?

If you are a beginner, I recommend you start with 30 minute weekly lessons. More advanced students progress to 60 minute lessons, depending on their goals.

Where do you teach?

I travel to my students' homes and all travel costs are included in the hourly rate. There are many benefits to having lessons in the comfort of your own home! Children are often more comfortable in their own environment and you don`t have to deal with traffic!

How do I pay for my lessons?

Payment can be made on the day of your lesson or invoiced on a monthly basis, either by cash, check or with online banking options, such as Paypal or Zelle

What happens if I am unable to make my scheduled lesson?

I am a Mum and I understand that plans can change last minute and kids get sick! There are no late fees and we can work together to reschedule your lesson as soon as possible.

How can I tell if you`re the right teacher for my child or myself?

I offer the first lesson for free to see if you think I would be a good fit for you. It`s a very low key meetup where we got to know each other, discuss goals and can  start playing!
